There are plenty of things to see and do around Greenbushes
Mine Lookout
The Talison Minerals Mine Lookout opened on December 5th, 1998 and overlooks the Cornwall Pit where tantalum ore was extracted in open cut mining until 2003. The portal to the underground mining operations is situated at the base of the Cornwall Pit.
A new Central Lode open cut pit, south of the Cornwall Pit, is now the focus of surface mining.
Wheelchair and disabled access is provided at the lookout. There is progressive seating on the relatively steep walk ramp; with a gazebo, undercover seating and information panels at the top.
OPEN DAILY 8am to 5pm. South end of Telluride Street. Ample parking and toilet facilities are available. No entry fee.
The lookout is situated at the south end of Telluride Street.
If offers excellent view of the mining operations and is well worth a visit. Follow the signs off the South West Highway if you are not sure where to go.
Discovery Centre
Check out the NEW "Discovery Forest" at the Greenbushes Discovery Centre – take the timber journey through the natural forest to the final products that are used in our every day life. Visit the "Discovery Decline" – bringing the sights and sounds of an underground mine to life on the surface through audio and video displays.
The Greenbushes Discovery Centre is a module of the SouthWest Ecomuseum, and the "Working
Life Industrial Heritage Trail", which tells the story of human involvement with the environment and houses displays and unique games, for an interactive learning experience, of the highly diversified environment.
Walk Trails
There are two short walks, namely the "Mining Heritage walk" 3km or 1 hour, the "New Zealand Gully walk"
7km or 3 hours. A longer walk, the "Greenbushes Loop" 15km or 5 hours, connects to and shares a 5km section with the iconic Bibbulmun Track. Click here for more information on the walk trails.
Annual Discovery Centre Wattle Walk
Each year in August the Greenbushes Discovery Centre conducts a guided 2 hour walk through natural bushland and a chain of lakes to discover a little of the town's proud mining history and beautiful natural environment. Walkers will enjoy spectacular displays of wattle blossoms on the gentle journey which is also pram friendly. Heritage Park
Enjoy a picnic in the park, take a tour of the historic equipment display, or discover a walk trail.
Greenbushes Pool
A large natural water body in bushland setting on Spring Gully Road. Great picnic area with children’s play area and
toilets. Follow the signs off Blackwood Road. There is ample parking available. A stopping point on the Greenbushes Loop Walk Trail which connects to the Bibbulmun Track. Wattle Ridge Winery
Established in 1997 after the owners Jim and Vicky Henderson (who had been supplying south west wineries with grapes) decided to produce their own wine. Features the “Two Tinsmiths” range of wines which pay homage to the areas rich history as a tin mining town. Take a short detour off the South Western Highway and call in to the cellar which overlooks the vineyard and has spectacular views of the surrounding forest and farmland.
