TALISON GREENBUSHES PTY LTD

West Australian based mining company Talison Minerals Pty Ltd is one of the world's largest suppliers of two key strategic minerals - tantalum concentrates and lithium minerals - from its mining oepration at Greenbsuhes in the south west of Western Australia.

Minerals produced at Talison Greenbsuhes can be found in many different applications including mobile phones, computers, surgical implants, electronic devices, the aerospace industry (tantalum) and glassware, ceramics and batteries (lithium).

Tantalum deposits are very rare, with two of the operational Australian tantalum mines in WA - one in Greenbushes and the other at Wodgina in the Pilbara owned and operated by Talison. These are the largest and second largest hard rock tantalum mines in the world respectively.

Tantalum, lithium minerals and tin are the three main products mined at Talison Minerals Pty Ltd Greenbushes Operations.

The Greenbushes mine is located in the south west of Western Australian approximately 250 km south of Perth and 80 km south east of the port of Bunbury.

The site is comprised of a number of open cut mining oprations for tantalum, tin and spodumene (lithium). An underground tantalum operation has also been developed.

The Greenbushes pegmatitie is the world's largest hard rock tantalum resource and the largest and highest grade lithium minerals resource in the world.

Talison Minerals Pty Ltd purchased the Greenbushes and Wodgina mining operations in 2007.

The Greenbushes Mine is a major employer in the region with a workforce of around 300 people from technical staff through to contractors.

Infrastructure on site includes a crushing plant, three processing plants, storage sheds, administrative offices, engineering offices, a laboratory, occupational health/safety/training offices, stores and workshops.

Technical, administration and maintenance sections work on day shift, whilst processing plants and mining operate on a continuous shift system.

As befitting an operation that has two distinct mining sections and four plants, the workforce is characterized by a diversity of skills and knowledge.

The operation is moving towards a team based culture. This allows individuals considerable input into the way they do their jobs, and encourages commitment and responsibility.

Employee training, health and safety, quality management, environmental awareness and community relations are emphasised.
