Greenbushes Discovery Centre

OPEN WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY and SUNDAY - 10am to 2pm or by appointment. Phone 97643883.

CLOSED CHRISTMAS DAY and GOOD FRIDAY.

Greenbushes Discovery Centre is a module of the SouthWest Ecomuseum, which provides a fascinating insight into the natural and cultural environment of the south west.

The Centre was initiated by the local Ratepayers and Residents Association and has been conceived as a multi-media experience representing the town, its history, its people and places of natural beauty. Graham 'Polly' Farmer officially opened the Centre on 24th February 1998.

Greenbushes Discovery Centre and Mine Lookout are on the South West "Working Life Heritage Trail". Touch the past, live the present, imagine the future....

This trail enables people to take a leisurely tour around the south west at their own pace to discover the south west's unique past. Pick up the trail and meander through farms, forests and friendly country towns. The Working Life Heritage Trail tours are designed for people to travel by car at their own pace.

The Greenbushes Discovery Centre tells the story of human involvement with the environment. It houses interactive displays and unique games set in various themes namely Mining, Timber Milling, Community and Agriculture, all under the umbrella of 'The Land'.

Experience the "Discovery Forest" interactive timber display or explore the "Discovery Decline" replica underground tunnel. Take a walk on the suite of walk trails and experience the natural environment and history of the area.

The Centre is open for ad hoc tours or group tours, by prior arrangement, and provides a comfortable and relaxing venue for tour groups to stop and allow travellers to stretch their legs.  The Discovery Centre is located at 38 Blackwood Road in Greenbushes, opposite the Heritage Park and is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 2 pm or by prior arangement. Phone or fax (08) 9764 3883.

Volunteers from the local community, who have an enormous amount of history to share, operate the Centre.
